Silversmithing 101: Rings in Kodiak, AK on 8/10/25
Silver Ring with Stone Setting
August 10th, 2025 from 11am-5pm
This class is taught by Silversmith Meagan Anderson, owner of Sweet Pea Custom Silver in Raynesford, Montana.
(This class will be held in downtown Kodiak at a public venue; address will be shared via email following sing-up. No visitors and no auditing allowed.)
Beginner Friendly!
The cost of the class includes a silversmithing toolkit rental, all silver needed, and a stone to set. You will have the opportunity to purchase a Silversmithing Kit, silver, and stones from Sweet Pea Custom Silver following the class as well.
This class is completely hands-on, and requires no previous jewelry-making or crafting experience. You will go through safety briefing, be introduced to all the tools used in the class, and practice soldering techniques with a butane jeweler’s torch in the first 3 hours of class. You’ll learn all the basics as you make a set of sterling silver rings, then carefully build a customized bezel from scratch. Finally you’ll put it all together and set a stone in your finished piece. Afterwards you get to take home a sterling silver statement ring you’ve made entirely yourself!
If you ever use reading glasses (or even if you occasionally use them for projects sometimes…maybe…), please be sure to bring them. You are also welcome to bring your own PPE (safety glasses, gloves, and/or a respiratory protection), although these are optional. Close-toed shoes are also optional. Just keep in mind: we all smith at our own risk!
All materials needed to complete the class are provided by SPCS and included in the cost of the class. You may bring a stone of your own to set, choose from stones included in the price, or purchase a high-grade stone from SPCS inventory.
*Any stone you bring must be a cabochon style or have a flat surface to balance on; no faceted stones for this class please! Your stone must measure no more than 1 inch in diameter (or at the widest point), and be no more than 1/4 inch in height on the sides.
